Freedom Fighter Myanmar is a team of ordinary people who would join the fight to bring freedom, justice and humanity to Myanmar and the entire world with peaceful and constructive means.
We believe grassroot movements are the most practical and effective way to bring sustainable changes in Myanmar.
Our tactics are based on the following three principles.
Education on civil movements
The power of knowledge and keeping the citizens informed are essential to build a democratic country, which is our primary goal. We organize trainings, workshops and public forums on strategic nonviolent movements.
Expanding civic space
Policy building should be a collaborative process between people and stakeholders. We strategize short-term and long-term plans for the capacity building of grassroots so that the power of people is stronger than weapons.
Advocacy
Through education, capacity building and communication, we encourage civil groups, organizations, politicians, stakeholders and leaders of the future to envision a just society where equality and humanity are heartily valued.
Collaboration
One of the core elements of non-violent struggles is finding the unity though common values and beliefs across different groups. We consider cooperation at multiple layers of the revolutionary forces play a vital role and we are willing to work with any organization that is fighting for freedom, justice and humanity.
Starting from January 2022, we have held weekly public dialogue sessions to provide a space for individuals with diverse positions to discuss and exchange ideas. We believe dialogues are essential in nonviolence activism, as violence become the default choice when people has no confidence to solve the conflict with words, idea and truth in the dialogic practice.
Conducting intensive 2-month training to explore nonviolence philosophy, civil resistance strategic planning, political ideology, and freedom fighter philosophies. Completed seven batches from 2021 until now, with around 15 participants per batch. Most FFM team members are recruited through these training sessions.
As FFM emerged from a translation team, we considered translation as one of our major activities. We have been translating various nonviolence literature from English to Burmese.
Translated works include
Engaging in discussions and consultations with allied organizations, including strike committees, student organizations, and defection organizations, focusing on nonviolence principles and strategy formation. Organized the first and second Defection and Defiance Forum in collaboration with People’s Goal.
